Style Stories - Anda & Masha
Anda and Masha, In their 30's, Fashion Stylist, Hat and Sunglasses Designer, Blogger
What is a typical day at work for you?
Each day is completely different to the next depending on who we are working with or what kind of job we are doing; we’ll either be styling a collection or on location to shoot a line we have styled or working with celebrities. It’s a very physical but extremely rewarding job and we are constantly meeting new people. In addition to styling, we are constantly meeting with our production team regarding our sunglass and hat lines. We also need to fit in time for our blog, which means writing either late at night or early in the morning.
How long have you been doing this job?
We’ve been styling together for 9 years. We started the hat line and blog about a year and a half ago.
How did you get to where you are today?
I (Anda) was a designer for 6 years before I became a stylist, which really helped me with the business side of the fashion industry as well as the dedication to a brand. When Masha and I decided to work together as a styling team, we knew it would work out well- both coming from fashion backgrounds and both bringing two different skill sets to our work. Nine years later, it has been a lot of work, a lot of dedication, and a lot of learning to continually be at the top of our game.
Where do you go for your style inspiration?
Our inspiration comes from everything around us- from old movies, art, photography, magazines, people on the street, from our own experiences in life and our travels.
What is your latest style obsession?
Our latest style obsession has been mixing patterns and textures - it’s what we are now known for. We do it for J Crew, the Rolling Stones and Nylon, as well as with a lot of the celebs we work with.
Whose wardrobe would you love to raid?
We would love to raid Emanuelle Alt's wardrobe. She has a similar style to us - a little rock and roll, a lot of taste and a lot of fun in a classic way.
What do you think can make or break an outfit?
To follow Chanel's rule of always taking one thing off before you leave is great advice. The one thing that can make or break an outfit is when you overdo it - it's always good to play any bold look down a little. In my opinion, it’s much better than going over the top and looking like you’ve either 'tried too hard' or that you're wearing a costume.
What should people look for when putting an outfit together?
That it makes you feel good- whether it’s a colour or a fit. Always add your own personality, using anything from a favourite hat to a favourite pair of shoes.
What is your favorite eBay find ever?
(Anda) A Marc Jacobs denim sailor jacket. I found this great seller in the UK. A few weeks later, I bought a Jil Sander blazer from her too! (Masha) My favorite eBay find ever? Vivienne Westwood boots.
What is your favorite piece from the eBay SS 2012 Collection?
(Anda) One of my favorite pieces from the eBay SS collection is the fitted floral printed denim trousers that I wore in one of the campaign shots- this is something that I would buy and wear any day. (Masha) The classic white blazer.
What is your dream get away?
(Anda) I love to be anywhere where I can be alone- whether it’s in the forest, hiking on a mountain or lying on a remote beach...this is what happens when you are surrounded by people all the time!
(Masha) Thailand, every time!
What song would you listen to on repeat?
(Anda) Thank you by Led Zeppelin.
(Masha)The Cult...she sells sanctuary
